So I bought my M&P 40 before they began the 2 free mag promotion . I only have two magazines for my pistol, and would like to pick up at least one more, for peace of mind if nothing else.

My magazines are working perfectly, but I am fairly new into the shooting world and have no idea how many rounds a magazine can go through before they should either be discarded, or have the springs replaced?

Does anyone know a good place to get magazines or extra mag- springs for a Smith and Wesson M&P 40 in the Metro-Atlanta or Athens, GA areas?

Even a reasonably priced online company would be helpful.

Thank you guys!

You should be able to buy MP40 mags at any stocking Smith & Wesson dealer or you can buy them direct from S&W. They run a little over $40 new at most places. :)

Buy at least 12 mags total. 24 is better.

Hicap mags are like $100 bills.........you really can't have too many of them.

Might not do you much good due to shipping, but when I ordered some AR mags from 44Mag.com I got 'em to throw in an M&P mag or two.
'Course, the M&P mags ran my order over $200, which meant free shipping.

Best price I could find for the magazine, but he appears to be currently out of stock on a number of 'em-site shows $23.99 for all M&P mags-sounds like what I paid for mine.

Thanks basicblur, I hadn't thought about the s&h fee, it would probably be cheaper to find some here in GA.

Out of curiosity how often do you guys retire your magazines (after 1000 rounds, 5000 rounds) or do you guys just replace the springs in the magazines?

Only replace the tube/base if it's damaged. Springs do wear out, I'd suggest changing them every couple of thousand rounds or when they start showing signs of wear (less pressure on the follower).
