I have a M&P 45 that is new to me and i'm practicing breaking it down to become more familiar with it. Compared to my XDM the take down doesn't seem to go as smooth for me. The problem for me lays when reassembling it. Every single time I go to put the slide back on it feels like a rough transition in the take down lever area putting it back up. It almost feels as if it jams up or is rough and I have to toy with it. It's become very frustrating for me. Any potential problems mechanically or with me maybe that anyone can see? I read known agencies that carry the M&P on Wikipedia and it concerned me when I saw this "Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, M&P9 Phasing out as optional On-Duty and Off-Duty Weapons due to operational concerns"
I'm going to be going to the range soon but have read a lot about Failure to Feed problems in particular with the M&P 45. Is there a known issue with this such as ammo sensitivity or anything else? The XDM 9 I had ate everything I put in it including Wolf ammo.
Are there any performance kits out there or recommendations that would make my M&P 45 feed better?
Without having shot it yet and to add some insight instead of just questions to other gunners out there the guide rod doesn't sit as easily and snug to the barrel as the XDM did. Taking it apart yesterday I must have offset the guide rod a little bit or something because when I pulled my slide back on reassembly I got jammed back.
To end on a positive note I do like how the M&P fits my hand better than the XDM, the slide rides lower compared to the bulkier XDM and the backstraps ARE SO MUCH easier to change. The M&P feels more solid and natural to aim with while providing a less blocky feel in comparison to the XDM.
I have the standard M&P 45 that was purchased originally in 2010 if that matters.
