M&P 9c Now Comes with Thumb Saftey - Can you add one?

I have both the .45 with the thumb safety and the 9c without. Can one add or have added, a thumb safety to the 9c? Just saw that as under S&Ws "New Guns" on their website today.

There's a topic asking this over on the M&P Forums, and the general consensus is that this cannot be done.
