So, I have this M&P and I carry it in a Desantis belt holster. It carrys very well, and I hardly notice the holster or gun, until I sit. The beavertail digs in to my side, and catches me just under the rib cage. It kinda hurts after a while, mostly while driving. I am considering reducing the beavertail a little bit to see if it would help. I have read some threads about this, but would like to know if this has bothered anyone else to the point that they would alter the beavertail. I have done the trigger job to it myself and it feels great, so I will probably remove the 'tail myself if that is what I decide to do. Any comments?

I carry a full size M&P .40 at the 3:45 position and its the most comfortable when I sit. I use that position because it happens to hit my drivers seat perfect as to not dig into me at all. You might just want to move the holster a little bit before re-shaping and thus devaluing your gun.

I kinda agree with what kd7nqb says. My thought is this... Drawing from the 4:00+ o'clock position is difficult when seated in the car. Maybe try moving the holster to the 3:00 o'clock position before sitting? It could be more comfy AND easier to draw from there. But, maybe your holster won't move easily because of snaps or otherwise. Take a look at pictures of 'bobbed' M&Ps online before you start and get a good idea of what you want. Then, go slow :)

When I first got my M&P40, I was really considering chopping the beavertail. It doesn't interfere with anything as it is, so I will leave it for now.

I moved the holster a bit forward, I'll try that for a while before I do anything drastic. I really like the look of the beavertail anyways.
