I just shot my new M&P40. I found that I was shooting a bit low at 10 and 15 yards. Is there an elevation adjustment on the M&P or do I simply need to reframe my sight picture?

I wouldn't even think about adjusting the sights until you've shot it from a rest to make sure it is the gun.

How much low and how tight a group are we talking about?
What weight bullet and brand of ammo?

Elevation adjustment is usually accomplished by changing to a different height sight blade

Some combat pistols come from the factory set si the front dot must be placed on your target. I prefer a 6 o'clock hold, so I put a shorter front sight on my M&P 9 to shift the impact higher on target

Are you Sure you're not jerking that pistol down in anticipation of recoil, or maybe pulling down by using too much finger on the trigger?

Most likely, the M&P is set for sight image 3 in the attached picture. I know my compact is. Like the post above, shorter front sight or higher rear. Another option is Dawson adjustable sights.

The reason I'm asking is because the first time I shot my walther p1, I was shooting way low. Went back to the range a couple of weeks later and really dialed in on my finger position on the trigger and pulling straight back on the trigger, and really focusing on that front sight, and almost immediately i was shooting right on target. So it wasn't the walthers sight, it was me. Big surprise there. But it beats having to fiddle with the front sight.
