I have an M1 Carbine on the way to me and need ammo for it. There is no .30 carbine available to me here so I'll need to order on line. I could get a half a dozen boxes of various brands or a 500 round case of one brand. All brass since I'll be reloading it when the dies get here. Probably stick with 110grain in FMJ or soft point.

I'd appreciate your suggestions on brand and bullet type. Cost is not a consideration as I married above my station.:D

Thanks

Tom

The Monarch/PPU chrono's highest of any factory I've shot. Not the most accurate though. Just under 2,000fps.
The most accurate has been Armsco, but it's slow, often not feeding reliably from either a Plainfield commercial gun or '43 Saginaw rebuild. Chrono's ~mid 1800's.

My hand loads with RMR 110grn over 14.7grn of H110/296 are more accurate than Sierra's.
Go figure! 12cent bullets out shoot 24cent bullets!

You really need to reload for the carbine. Most of the Lil'Guns problems are ammo related.

What do you want your bullets to do, other than be accurate and feed reliably? Target shooting, small game hunting, defense...?

Go to ammoseek.com enter 30 carbine to get a comprehensive view of what's
Currently available from a variety of sources. The last I checked you could find Aguila there for less than CMP... You'll be able to check by brand, amount, ammo
type, cost, etc

The best "off the shelf" ammo Ive found was some geriatric old W-W. runs out to nearly 2000fps very consistently, and is as accurate as Id want. Top shelf IMO, but i have no idea where you may find any?

Magtech and aguila are fine, though not as hot and not as consistent, round to round.

Ive shot some sellier and bellot as well, but have not chrono'd any. I do like it better than the magtech or aguila.

Thats just my seat of the pants opinion, I have no concrete reasoning to base it on :)

Edit:
Norma, too! Good stuff

I have had good luck with the Armscor USA brand 110 fmj ammo in my carbine. The most accurate ammo I have shot was the Hornady Critical Defense 110 jhp ammo.

Buy the cheapest ammo you can find. None of it will be 43 mil spec so know that up front. When you get your loader set up you can load it the way it was meant to be loaded. 1950 fps will put a smile on your face after factory ammo.

Don't forget to lube and trim your cases.

I'm not up to date on current commercial offerings, but if you can find any Korean surplus .30 carbine buy it. It's more powerful AND more accurate than the FA, WRA and LC carbine ammo I've fired.

I'll second what CoalTrain49 said, even if you're using carbide dies a little lube is a very good idea. Also, for best accuracy, keep your cases segregated and trim after each resizing.

I've found Ventura Munitions to be very reasonably priced, and they are located right here in Las Vegas. I just bought 250 rounds of military .30 carbine ammo for right at $89.99 and the brass is definitely reloadable. Just go to venturamunitions.com for a complete price listing.

Loose… check out ammoseek which is just a listing service,-definitely cheaper than ventura (as well as 200 more offerings in 30 carbine, where ventura only lists two to choose from). Steel case as low as .25 per round -both Aguila and Armscor at around .33 -the one you purchased comes in a .36 per round…

My first time out I chose rareammo and received two days later both the Aguila fmj and the PPU in soft point that I wanted -very pleased….

Avoid Tula ammo. It's cheap, but nasty stuff. If you love your carbine, shoot Remington UMC, Sellier & Bellot, or Winchester. All the good ammo is priced pretty much the same.

Wikiarms will show you the best priced, good ammo. Watch Sportsmansguide for opportunities for free shipping on orders >$49. Great value there.

lemaymiami, the only problem with that is after you pay the shipping and handling, you've paid actually more. Ventura Munitions, is just 90 miles away from me, so when my wife and I get hungry for "Red Lobster", we generally make a day of it, and I get all my shooting, reloading needs, and appetite resolved in one trip.

BTW I don't shoot steel cased ammo in anything other than my AK-47, as I reload for everything else.
