If your familiar with the M1 Carbine your likely to be familiar with the handguard rail offered by various companies. If you don't know what I'm talking about its the weaver rail that replaces the handguard to which you can mount a red dot scope or some other forword mounted optics. They say in bold red letters "NOT FOR USE WITH THE UNIVERSAL MODELS"... well.... methinks it COULD work with a little gunsmithing... no? What do you think? Anyone ever tried it?

Thanks,

The Universal carbines are not built to GI specs, therefore a GI-spec gas piston housing (which is the foundation of the Ultimak sight rail that you're talking about) won't fit. If you modify it to fit, you're taking it out of its original design specification, and therefore void any warranty on it (and, correspondingly, any compensation if your gun blows up on you). If you want to take the risk, it's your affair, but I wouldn't... :(
