It feels so good to have it done! Just had to get that out first....

I have a Universal Gen 1 that the pot metal aluminum trigger pack cracked on me after I got it off of gunbroker after the 2 only rounds I have though it. I considered getting another one, but after extensive research, and help from fellow members on here, I secured a heavily sporterized USGI M1 Carbine and was able to take the trigger pack from that one, along with the stock and forearm, and make one whole rifle! Can't wait until the weekend to try her out. Its been a year since I bought the first one, and just recently brought home the other. (The USGI Inland was roughly converted to 5.7 Johnson, or so its believed, another story, and I bought the whole rifle for 300 clams, so not so bad)
Pictures to follow soon. Thank you everyone! :)

Awesome, congrats!

My 4-digit Universal is one of my very favorite rifles, I swapped out the trigger housing for a steel USGI unit when I first got it. It took only very minor hand fitting to the receiver, all of the small parts dropped right in. It is very reliable and more accurate than either of my GI guns.

Yes, I thought of your advice when I was fitting the trigger housing on the Universal. Everything is looking good. Some slop in the stock that I will take care of, a notch someone cut into it long ago, its not bothering anything. Next up is sling and oiler, amazon has some good deals on those. :) Thank you for your awesome tips.

Looks really good, especially if it's an IBM, very rare.
Now for something else. I noticed these markings under the layers of shellack, so I cleaned it off a little to see what was under there. The bottom mark looks to be TN , the top, I'm not sure. Starts with a "TR" but I can't make out the rest. Any ideas what it means? Looks almost factory.

I had a Plainfield M1 carbine way back when, with a birch stock, zamac trigger housing, and a steel handguard.
Thanks to Numrich, I replace the trigger housing with a G.I. one and the stock with a really well-made paratrooper replica folding stock with really nice walnut.
Stupidly, I sold it.

No worries, I have had two other USGI M1 Carbines in my life, and for reasons I don't even understand, they went away. Well, what's more fun then a project, right?
