I used the search function and found no "Merek".

This is an Inland Carbine SN 614829 with a barrel stamp which reads "Inland MFG. Div. General Motors 8 43"

It has a stamp on the left side of the receiver hidden by the stock "Merek Sav Ga".

I assume this is an importer's stamp, but I cannot find any reference in my limited(Google and THR) search.

Anyone know what this stamp means?

You sure it isn't Merex Sav Ga?
Merex International Arms of Savannah, Ga.

If so, it was an Export stamp for a CIA front company for illegal arms shipments during the Iran Contra thing.

I'd watch for unmarked black helicopters circling your house if I were you!! :what:

Seriously though, there is no danger of that, and it will make for an interesting story!

Thanks RC,

It could very well be MEREX which would explain why I couldn't find merek.

There have been some black sedans and suv s but no helicopters.

There is no requirement for an "export" stamp; the gun was probably imported from some other country (S. Korea?) and marked at that time. If the gun was truly intended to be "sanitized" it would likely have no marking at all beyond the WWII manufacturer's marking, and there would be no record that it had ever been in this country since WWII.
