I recently purchased an M1 Carbine that was missing the front sight.
I went on line and ordered the pieces, but they do not seem to be the correct parts. I received the sight, a rectangular key, and a pin. The barrel of the rifle does not have a slot for a rectangular key, but does have a divit that appears to take a round or ball shaped key. The manufacturer was Universal in Hialeah, Fla. Can anyone tell me where to find the correct parts?

Thanks.

Suspect that you have found one of the ways a Universal is not a mil-spec as-issued M-1 carbine.
I've no references on Universals handy; might be worth an online search for Universal carbine parts list.

Universal built carbines from some surplus parts, but also made some ad hoc changes to work with what they had. Those changes have vexed folk ever since.

Sounds like you have the correct USGI parts. Universal is a commercial copy and not all USGI parts will interchange with it
