M1 Garand Stock ID

I ran across this old what I assume is a M1 Garand stock.
I can't seem to find an example of one with those finger grooves.
That cartouche is a circle with a P.
Can anyone ID this?

Circle P is a standard Proof cartouche.
Stock has been refinished so it is likely the grooves were added at that time.
