I know that I am probably going to catch some grief for this but here it goes.
I recently purchased a m1 garand, in somewhat decent condition, for $200. I fixed and refinished guns before, and modified them by hand. But now that's gotten old, so I am going to be stupid and probably completely ruin this gun. I have seen confirmed accounts of successful conversions of the m1 to the m1a. I have parts lists already, and some of the new m1a parts. But I can't for the life of me find anyone who has EXACT parts measurements. If anyone has basically a part-by-part break down, with measurements, please send them to me. I would be eternally grateful.

Why try converting a piece of history? I mean it must be in pretty bad shape to only get it for $200, but I dont think its a good idea. Unfortunately I've never heard of or seen any M1 having been converted to accept 20 round mags. I'd like to see one though, just so I can say I have.

They are out there and probably more than you would think. It was one of those garand conversions that was prevalent back when garands were a dime a dozen. There were some smiths that did it OK and some that did it not so well. Many of them used BAR mags and just did not work.

Google "garand mag conversion" or something similar and I'm sure you will find a whole bunch of info.

Here is was FA has to say on it:
