I have seen some M14/M1A mags produced by a company called Wester Metal Product, they are describes as "magazines are new and were manufactuerd by Western Metal Products in the early 90's to military specifications (USGI) with a welded lug (not stamped), metal floorplate and gray follower"

Now the price of this are around $20 for a 20rd mag. This sounds to good to be true.

Does anyone here know is there are any good?

I don't know much specifically about M1A/M14 magazines but I have learned that 99% of the time if you want a magazine to be reliable then it must either be OEM factory or USGI.

This goes for everything from SIGs to AR15s.

I realize Mec-Gar makes a solid product but they are actually the OEM manufacturer for many companies.

If it sounds to good to be true it probably is. I can't tell you how many aftermarket AR15 magazines are manufactured to "MILITARY SPECIFICATIONS":barf: Of course you can't blame them, not like there marketing campaign would read "Our stuff is crap or our stuff is almost as good but not quite."

I have no experience with aftermarket M14 mags, but I do know that real USGI mags work perfectly. Hopefully Mec-Gar will start making M14 mags if the ban sunsets, otherwise supply is still fixed.

Many of the repro M14 magazines have the lug punched out of the metal. This will work for a while but with full magazines will usually wear rather quickly. I don't know about those Western Metal magazines, but if the lug is welded on they should be quite a bit better (at least in that respect) than the others.

I have personal experience with Western. Mine would not even work "for a while" and I returned them. Buy USGI or the USGI tooled Chinese.

Where can one find the Chinese mags? Are they really from the Taiwan tooling by chance? hmmm....don't remember much free trade between those two...dumb question...?
