M14 / M25 builds by LRB

I'm in the market for a Springfield M1A, but I'm want to find a configuration that allows the standard mounting of an optic (scope) on top of the receiver at the proper height, instead of forward of the receiver. Springfield doesn't seem to have this option coming from the factory.

I came across a few LRB builds on gunbroker that have exactly the type of setup I'm looking for, but I'm not familiar with the company at all.

I searched the forum, and there is a bit of information on them, but I'm curious as to overall opinions ordering builds through LRB instead of Springfield.

You cannot do better than LRB since LRB is the only American company that offers forges receivers. You are going to pay a hefty premium for an LRB.

LRB build times are at around 20months out from initial order.

SAI is at 6 months to a yr (Socom/Scout/Standard.

Longer for the other models.


LRB M25 will still need some sort of build up for proper cheekweld.

The only receiver mount I have found that doesnt require it is the ARMS18, but it did take me awhile to find the right optic/rings to get it where I wanted.

LRB Arms builds thier rifles very well from my hands on with them. You also have the option of a well made chrome lined bbl.

You cant go wrong with an M14SA or M25 IMO.

If I were starting from scratch, I would go with LRB.

LRB= Great stuff. You might also want to check out Fulton Armory also.

Well, I'm not sure. I'm leaning towards something in a shorter barrel length (18 inch), with an integrated scope rail over the receiver.

They can be pricey and there is discussion of the actual need for a forged receiver, but I like mine - which came with 100% USGI parts other than the receiver.

Pricey is an understatement They don't seem to have much competition though, and with wait times being what they are, I can see why their rifles fetch such a high price.

I can recommend Ted Brown in Oregon. He builds very professional M14s, but he is not cheap, nor should he be.

I have used LRB's short bbls for a few myself on M14S and M1A receivers.

Criterion builds the type I used.

18.5in chrome lined std weight. 1/12in twist.

Excellent bbls from my experience with them.

It would make for one heckof an M14SA or M25 "tanker" build.

I also like the Smith Enterprise Inc Gas lock front sights and direct connect Vortex flash hiders for the shorty builds.

EDIT: A buddy of mine wants an LRB so bad that he is thinking about sending them his M1A to be rebuilt with thier M25 receiver and chrome lined Criterion bbl.

My wife's uncle got one from them with all H&R USGI proof-marks. It is beautiful!

I just picked up a mint Polytech M14S from a LGS, which has a forged reciever and chrome lined bbl.. I will be replaceing Chicom bolt with USGI TRW bolt and then will continue to tweek it for optimum accuracy.

Update on the M14 I bought:

Not only was it built off of a LRB M14SA receiver, but it was made but none other than Jon Wolfe.

Never heard of the guy until now, but apparently he has quite the reputation in the M14 industry.
