I've been to some of the gun sites checking on M1A pricing but am trying to get a realistic idea on what I could expect to pay for an M1A with less than 100 rounds put through it. There is no FFL , shipping, or tax issues.
Thanks

Do you mean specifically the Springfield Armory M1A, or are you including other civilian M14 clones?

I saw a Federal Ordnance M14 for $900 at a shop today, and was momentarily excited until I got home and read that Fed Ord has a really spotty rep.

There's also Norinco (also called Polytech), which has some good parts and some middling parts, but you can read online about the standard way to keep the best and replace the middling and end up with a really solid rifle for a good price.

I is not an M14, M1A is stamped on rifle along with the serial number 23? million something. I'm pretty sure it came from the CMP store. I know the buyer well enough that he does not buy clones and does a lot of research before buying or having any rifle built.

With less than 100 rounds through the rifle, one might classify it as like-new or excellent-plus. Assuming the rifle was NIB to start with, I personally wouldn't expect much of a price drop.

Again, price depends on the specific model but I've seen them as low as $1300 for NIB standard-synthetic models.

If it's an M1A it couldn't have come from CMP. You need to find out whether it is a Standard, Loaded, NM, Supermatch, etc. The prices differ greatly depending on the model. Go to Buds.com and check their pricing on a similar M1A and then subtract approximately 15%. That should give you a reasonable estimate if it's a fairly new rifle in near unused condition.
