You guys seen the deal? Buy a Springfield M1A before Sept 30th, and for $250 you also get a 3rd gen mount, rings and a 6x40 government model range finding scope (plus a SA folder).

Store near where I am has a sale on the plain-Jane M1A parkerized, fiberglass stock, for $1099.

Anyone know of a better price? I think it is about time to get a .308 semi auto, and as I am in California I should do it before they figure out how to ban them.

ive heard many many horror stories with the SA 3rd Gen mount. losing zero, having to use a hammer to install, the scope is fine, but the mount is poopy :/ spend your money on the mars or a smith ent. mount.

Ditto on the 3rd gen mount. I SEEN horror stories with those mounts.

I'd recommend the ARMS mount or the Smith Enterprises mount.

As to the scope, SA makes decent, but not excellent, glass. I've known several people that have returned them multiple times for replacement. You probably can't go wrong for $250, but there are a lot of better choices out there.

Sounds like a good deal... if you think you will ever want to go for accuracy in your M1A (competition shooting), you may want to consider buying a rear-lugged receiver now for $650-700, and build a gun up from scratch later (after the ban we all anticipate).

If I wasn't such an ENTHUSIAST I'd just buy that $1100 package... me, I'm building one up from the receiver, putting on a Krieger barrel, McMillan stock... probably a BPT mount (there is another company now making BPT imitation stuff... no word on the street yet on the mount, but the op rod guides have been getting good reviews on http://www.battlerifles.com )

Don't get me started on M14-type rifles - I won't shut up!

Sounds like an ok deal. Now when you actually recieve the scope and mounts is a different story.

I've heard of some guys waiting a good amount of time during the last promotion they had like that.

Sounds like the exact same promotion they ran last year, except nearly twice as much. For $130, it was a no-brainer (I think it was around $100 the previous time they ran it). I put the mount on ebay and got around $100, later sold the rings for $10. The scope ain't great, but for a $20 net cost, you can't beat it. I put it on one of my FAL's. I don't know if I'd pay $250 for the deal, though.
