Been pounding on the pivot pin of my Bulgarian '55 M44 with a 16oz ball peen and a steel punch. No movement, but I have bent the punch a bit. Going from left to right as the right side is already a little mushroomed over.

Other than just keep soaking the pin in kroil and developing patience; any ideas on how to expedite this?

Trying to install one of those nice Anacortes rear peep sights, but that isn't going to happen until I get that pin out.

Maybe it's a taper pin that goes right to left instead. You could clean up the pin face with a small Swiss file, that should at least show the pin diameter on both sides. Some heat from a bottle torch "small tip" might also loosen up any rust. JUST some heat though, not any glow of red crazy heat. :) It could also be a threaded pin, that someone mashed the slotted end with a wrong type driver tool.

Kriol, tap it so the Kroil gets in, give it time to work. Support the part well, use the right diameter punch, I'd use a brass one until you get some movement, then you can switch to steel. It is not threaded, nor a taper pin. they are just a PITA to remove without damaging. Take your time and avoid damaging it.

Heat it up with the woman's hair dryer and let it cool. Do the cycle a couple of time and should loosen up nicely.

Are they any different than men with hair use??lol As all said let Kroil or a similar penetrant work. Time is your friend with penetrant. I find light/medium repetitive tapping works better than a couple hits with a BFH.

It was just those concerns Shuvelrider raised that had me nervous. That, and a history of breaking things/pissing off the Chief when I decided to just hammer on through.
Thanks, Entropy, for putting those concerns to rest.

Kroil, and some applied heat will be the plan. I'm thinking 100 w bulb about 4-6 inches off the sight for a few days should give it a good heat soak. Oh, and a few more drops of kroil.
