Im looking at an M6 for a friend. he says it only wants to fire about half the time.
its not the ammo. it looks like for some reason someone shaved a good bit of metal off the back of the hammer.
I wonder it its because the hammer isnt as heavy as it was before.
any suggestions?

its the .410/.22 hornet

The weight of the hammer definitely can make a difference, but there could be other problems. Are the firing pin marks in the right place (center of primer on the .410 and on the case rim for the .22)? Is the gun tight so headspace can be ruled out? Are the firing pins shaped properly; is the .22 one damaged by dry firing?

Which barrel is giving the most trouble? As a rule it will be the .22 barrel rather than the .410 because the .22 case rim is actually harder to crush than the shotgun primer is.

If everything else seems OK, you might consider a lightened spring as well as the lightened hammer. It sounds like someone was trying to make the gun easier to cock, so both the hammer and spring might have been messed with.
