M855 - 5.56 Pistol Ban?

"I think much of this is just internet banter fodder for conspiracy theorists."
Pretty much. The bad kind of conspiracists, who distract otherwise rational people from the real worries of life. The anti's/administration most certainly want to ban anything AR15 --they've made that abundantly clear. But they can't and/or won't do it with some "ultimate ban to be rammed down our throats." They know we'd gut them (politically, of course) if they try to pull that stunt without even the pretext of a bunch of dead kids to stand on.

No, they'll continue doing what they've been doing; weaseling where they think they can get away with it, primarily administratively since it's only inside his own agencies that the president's agenda carries any weight these days.

Yes, this is "discussion" fodder. That is why I ask what people think.

Seems several do not think that they would attempt to classify any handgun that shoots a rifle cartridge to be a short barreled rifle.

I am intrigued by the idea that it might be easier to go after any handgun that shoots a bottleneck cartridge. It is similar to what I was thinking. If a bottleneck cartridge is classified to be a non-handgun cartridge (or in other words a long gun cartridge) then the anti-gunners can go after the .223 pistols. Would they try to make pistols that shoot bottlenecks illegal and try to collect them? Would they just stop all future manufacturing of them? If they stop the manufacturing of them, would the make it so that you couldn't sell one, it had to be turned in upon your death? Or, would the become like the full-auto's before the ban and sell with paperwork for large amounts of money?

I do not think it is a waste of time to try and anticipate where the next attack will come from. How many saw the attack of M855 coming? I did not see one post about it until after the ATF letter was noticed.

I do not believe that we have secured reasonable 2nd Amendment rights. I feel that there are two many weak points that need to be sured up. I do not think the next generation is going to "gut" anything. The "future" majority of this nation is not building confidence. The willingness of our generation to pull together and maybe take a bitter pill for the greater good is not apparent to me either because how did the president get re-elected.

So, why is it "tin foil" and "conspiracy theory" to try to find the weak spots?
Where do you think the next restriction on the 2nd Amendment will come from and what will it be?

Had there been semi-auto .223 handguns readily available in 1986, M855 would have been long gone.

Or the exact opposite may have happened, and M855 would have never been classified as AP to begin with, and not requiring the arbitrary "sporting use" clause.
