When the death ray becomes standard, Ma Deuce will still be providing fire support.

Sort of like when the last Blackhawk is retired a Huey will carry it to the graveyard.

Or, when the last aerial bomb is dropped, a B-52 will drop it.

Newer isn't always better, it's just newer.

Well, it is far less likely now, the NG retired the last operational UH-1 back in 2009.

And, those UH-1 Yankees, they ain't Heuys....

Oh, and sometimes newer is better, you know why that old M2 was back at Anniston?

It was due to be made into a new M2A1....

Why, an M2 is so light, an 85 pound 18 year old girl could carry one.....saw it happen at Ft. Jackson Supply School. Course it had the barrel out, and she (as did all of us 76Y's) only had to carry it 50 ft., from one gunbench to another.

All this reminiscing and Deuces and Hueys.....good times, good times. I miss those November models.

I still have my headspace and timing gauge.

As do I.

I'm curious what unit this old war horse was issued to. I'd love to know. It would also be interesting to trace the history of where this M2 had served over the 90+ years of its life.

Probably a pretty boring story about being stored stateside and not shot for years on end at some backwater unit. It seems from the article that it is in great shape, not what I would expect from a gun that has had a lot of use.
