Does anyone know if there are machine gun shoots in Illinois? Or within a few hours drive of Chicago. I know about Knob Creek, but its a bit far for me. Any help would be great.

Hmmm, you could drive to conservative, gun-loving Madison, Wisconsin :p

2nd (Amendment) thought: the Louisville tip is a good one. And take time to spend hours in the Frazier Museum, downtown near the river. Not far from the Louisville Slugger Museum. The Frazier has lots of weapons and guns on display.

FireArmFan - Got a place or two you would suggest? I'm in Lakeville and rented a couple on a one on one basis from individuals. A few buddies and I would like to see (and rent) at an organized shoot.

there is a place that i hear you can rent fully automatics in belleville, its just over the river from st.louis. dont have the name of it or anything right now

In MO down and around the STL there is Bullseye and and bit farther out Top Gun. Top Gun only has a MP5, Bullseye has several I believe(never been to either). Though this is probably outside of your couple hour drive range of Chicago.

Like I said.

Just get some buddies, pool your money for gas and beer (for afterwards), rent a car, throw a tent or two and some sleeping bags in the back, and come on down to Knob Creek. You will NOT be sorry.

hms365- The only place I've done it is at Bill's Gun Shop. They have 2 locations, one in Circle Pines and the other in Robbinsdale. You can set up an appointment to rent their MG's. They have a wide selection.

Here's their Machine Gun Info

Here is some of their selection although I think they more than shown here

Also twice a year (in the Fall and Spring) they have the "Shooters Show" where you get free range time on their full autos and all you pay for is ammo, targets, and i think $10-$15 per MG.

I've never been to an organized MG shoot Knob Creek style but it you type "Minnesota Machine Gun" into youtube, several videos pop up, so organized MG shoots do happen in MN but they may be private events.

LAW outdoor range in Chandlerville Illinois has a pretty extensive MG rental selection.

The ammo is pretty expensive though, usually 50 cents a round if not more. A few years back it was something like 30 cents a round.

Also if you are not a moron they'll let you take the MG through the tactical course.
