do the magsafe self defense rounds really perform as well as people have reporter. im looking at picking up a smith and wesson 642 in the 38. special and i want decent stopping power.

Frangible ammo is rarely worth the trouble.
Good quality commercial hollowpoint (JHP, LHP, or EFMJ) rounds work, trick frangible ammo has very few real applications.
Check out the box o' truth for some frangible ammo testing.

Out of a short barrel .38? Probabily not.

A lot of people will (Uncluding me) will tell you to use Gold Dot 135g, It's disigned for short barrels.

You'd probably wished you had used a plain-Jane JHP that turns out the lights as well or better than the shallow penetrating Mag-Safe stuff while you listen to the prosecuter telling the jury about the "exotic" "devastating" "exploding upon impact" ammo you shot the poor hapless home invader with.

MagSafe isn't proven yet. Theory doesn't agree with me also, as the bullet grains are very light vs. other manufacturers.
