A friend has a IJ-70 chambered in 380 acp and has only one magazine for it, he is looking for one or two extra single stack mags.
Are the magazines interchangeable between the IJ-70 and the PM? I have noticed two types of single stack mags, one has a hump near the base plate and the other has a slot were the hump would be. So whats the scoop?

Wow, at first I thought you meant some kind of Iver Johnson automatic, joneb. I had forgotten that the Russian Makarovs made for export in 380 were designated IJ-70. Sorry I can't help you. I have no clue about the magazines.

They are the same magazine. The early Soviet and East German magazines had the hump to cover a tab on the follower that engages the slide stop. The later Soviet, Chinese, and Bulgarian mags do not have the hump. The magazines will even work in the double stack Makarovs.

I can't confirm this from personal experience, but other sources say that the 9x18 Makarov magazines are interchangeable and will function in Makarovs chambered in .380.
