Has this ever happened to anyone else?
Over the years as I aquired new weapons, I guess I just didn't think it was nessesary to tell my wife about each aquisition. Well about a year and a half ago While on vacation we had ahouse fire The house was just about a writeoff but the guns were in a gunsafe and outher secure locations.. So as I was preparing the guns for long term storage she saw them all at once for the first time. The SKS,the Enfield no.4,The M1,theM1A,four Ruger single actions,a Sig220,four Winchester and three Marlin lever actions and on and on for a total of fourty five in all. There was also thirty five thousand rounds of ammo(You know y2k and all) there were also assorted combat knifes. So there she was standing in the garage looking at all this weaponry and holding in her hand my World war Two German SS dagger and said ''Who ARE you?''.....How would you explain the suddenly large collection? Ijust mumbled something like, you've seen these before anyway we've just had a fire and Im to upset to discuss this now.........

"Who are you?" Gee, you mean all these years and she never knew who you were? ;)

45 guns, 35000 rounds of ammo, and a bunch of combat knives...I do sort of understand her amazement. But guns are relatively cheap. Explain to her that for the price of a decent luxury car (35k), you could have bought nearly TWICE that many guns if you shopped around. If it's your hobby, it's okay to spend money on it...life is too short.

The last time I moved, I surprised myself with how many guns I own. I had to empty my safes and move them seperately. There's a big difference in how they look stuffed into a safe and how the look spread out around a room.

I always wondered what a cop would say if he had pulled me over while hauling the guns from my old house to new house. I had layers of guns in the trunk, back seat, passenger seat and floorboards.

My collection is now out of control I'm afraid to open the door to my
gun storage area in front of the family.

It has been a gun every couple weeks for about 2 years now.

The ammo is going to need it's own zip code as it stands.

I'm going to have to start moving my clothes out of my closet and start a new gun rack.

Just tell her that it is a trait of all firearms that they breed in the darkness of the safe as rapidly as possible (& that all the .22 ammo is just .308 droppings :D ).

Will this work for ya?

"Honey, I'm the guy who's too broke from these guns to EVER have a mistress.."

Iron Mike,

How would you explain the suddenly large collection?

Become email pen pals with someone on THR who has a much larger collection than yours. Make sure you get photos. Store them someplace on your PC where you can pull them up quickly, or print them out.

Refer to your new "e-Friend" obliquely in conversation every now and again until their name is as familiar to your Dearly Beloved as any of your coworkers or old school chums.

Next time your Snookums starts to get unraveled over your collection, sell your new pen pal down the river. Point at the .jpeg of his collection (which you just happened to have handy to call up on your computer screen) and say, "Oh, I agree! I just thank God I'm not completely out of control like [insert new THR pen pal's name here]!"

:D

Acually She's fine with now (a year and a half later) In our newly rebuilt home my den has become the John Wayne room :D wherein I will display some of the old lever actions and single actions. Friends have given me framed pictures of the Duke and I have and old style cieling fan and am planning to get some period furniture (Hey no one said I had to grow up).
But youknow I don't have an 03 springfield or a CZ75 or an M44 or a Mak.....And now that we're moving back home instead of wasting insurance money on furniture.....Hmmmm:rolleyes:

It's very easy to accire alarge collection of weapons by buying three or more a year. Ammo is very cheap for .22 LR, .223 Rem, and 7.62x39 rounds or if you reload alot.

Depends where you live. Chigago you'll probley get arrested, elsewhere they tell you next time get a uhaul.

My wife would freak out if she saw my collection. The trick is to never let them see several guns at once. I can clean one and she does not know a rifle from a shotgun.

To h*** with the guns, at least I can invent a plausible reason for them. I'm worried she's going to find my sword collection!! Can anyone think of a good reason to own a longsword?

My GF, of many years, once got a good glimpse of the lions' share of my collection all in one group...

she knew I was a gun-nut... she knew I had alot of them, but not a TRUE idea, until that day...

when she asked, I pointed out her love of sparkly little baubles, and the 3 or 4 nice velvet lined boxes full of them... and pointed out that one dinky pair of those earrings could pay for the MOST expensive one in the group... and that the 8MM Merkel was FAR more useful in real life than those diamonds... (SHE was the one that said that the gun would shatter glass faster than she could cut it!)

she shut up in a hurry...

It's funny how women moan about their men collecting things like guns and knives
when they collect very useless stuff.

I'm assuming you don't have a plow... use this as justification ;)

My dad recently found my SAR-1 (he's most definately anti... around my mom, anyhow) and decided to bring it up one night at dinner. I'm in the process of moving to an apartment, and made mention of all my guns being gone. "Including your AK-47???" he asks. Nonchalantly, I reply "Not just yet--I'm refinishing the handguard and buttstock, so it'll be here a little while longer." Dad just does this sort of  and I just laugh... my mom either didn't hear that part of the conversation or she's in major denial... :p

 Parents. When will they ever learn? :D

Back in the day when I was collecting a few firearms, I would make sure they were all in blued finish and also make sure they had black rubber grips on them. The fact that they might be revolvers in 2 inch or 6 inch barrels was no matter. If they were semi-autos and were large frame like a M1911 or Beretta 92 or smaller like a Star .380 did not matter. The reason I did this was so my wife would not think I had just bought another handgun. After some time and effort went in to winning her over to my way of thinking she would see a sign advertising a GUN SHOW and ask if I had enough guns and ammo.

I don't have diddly squat to contribute to this discussion, but I am going to print it and save it. One day in the future, you all will make me look very normal and under-armed. And for that, I thank you! :p geegee

I got a rockchuker, a Dillon SDB, 2 lee pro 1000s, a rcbs partner press, 5 bullet molds, a mini furnace and dipper, 10 lbs of pistol powder and by sunday 10-15,000 pistol primers.

I ain't running out of ammo!
