I have read some of the threads related to magnum primers. Just want to know if anyone has had any trouble using a mag primer in a standard .308 load? I'm using a moderate charge of IMR 4895. and a 250gr spitzer. I came across some real cheap CCI 250 mag primers and would like to use them.

I cant find much info in my load books about the usage of magnum primers. I know it increases the pressure, but since I'm no where near max charge I'm thinking it would be OK??

any info would be helpful. Oh ya, I'm using these rounds for an AR .308..

Thanks JG

I'm guessing you mean 150gr.

You should be fine with mag primers, especially if you back off the charge a grain or so, then work back to your load. I'm not sure if it will affect your accuracy, as it's necessary to try it to find out.

Really no need for mag primers for 4895. However, I dont see any problems with it. I do use use mag match primers for my 308/30-06 bolt guns with slower powders. Of course slower powders is a no,no, with autoloaders... Reduce charge about 2gr. and work your way back up. :D

I agree with the above posts.....Drop back down a few grains and work back up with the mag primer. Since primers cost the same I use magnum primers on a lot of loads that don't call for it.
