Will Ruger 10/22 magazines fit and function in a bolt action 77/22. If so then why are the two sold separately? Are there any noticeable external or internal differences between the two?

I’m thinking one of those all weather model 77/22s would be a nifty accessory to screw onto the end of my new Gemtech when the form 4 comes back.

BTW: What’s a good price to pay for a new one? The suggested retail is $580 :what: . I’m definitely not paying that.

Thanks, Dan

I think the baseplate of the magazines is contoured differently to match the stocks, but they otherwise are the same.

I think the baseplate of the magazines is contoured differently to match the stocks, but they otherwise are the same.

the original design (BX-1), which is what comes with the 10/22 has a rounded baseplate.

the "JX-1" mag intended for the 77/22 and 96/22, has a flat base so as to have a clean, flat surface on the bottom of the stock.

NOW, the BX-1 (10/22) mag will work fine in a 77/22 except for having that rounde baseplate sticking out of the botton of the gun. BUT there have been a number of cases of the JX-1 style becoming jammed in the 10/22 tot eh point of requiring complete take-down of the rifle, to removed it from the gun!!

so 10/22 in 77/22 OK

77/22 in 10/22 NOT wise to tempt fate.

and since they're the same price no reason not to stick with the BX-1 except that "bellied" baseplate
