My USP tactical .45 has never had a single problem before. Ammo is scarce these days so I bought a box of magtech .45 ACP FMJ 230 grain and went shooting. Well, two things happened today:

#1, A few shots created recoil that felt like there was a hand pulling my gun up. It's hard to explain, but I never felt that with any ammo I have shot before.

#2 I had my first failed feed. Recoil felt light and my trigger squeeze changed. I checked the port and low and there was a double feed.

Has anyone besides me have problems with Magtech?

I get this for my uncles and where i work we have actually never had complaints on any Magtech ammo at all. Never. Never know... Bad lot...who knows.

I like Magtech, I have shot 38 Spc, 30 Carbine, 45 ACP, 380, and a few .454's. I have shot the most of their .38's and 45's. I have never hand any problems with them. With the .454 it seems to be a little hotter than the Winchester, but no where near the Hornaday.

The only ammo I have ever had trouble with was some 9mm Wolf, somehow the bullet was seated to one side of the case, I don’t know how, but it was like the case was off center and the bullet bulged to one side of the case.

I have had three separate guns brought to me for checking and/or to disassemble and remove pieces of primer from Magtech rounds that had no flash hole drilled in them. The primer erupts and breaks up, lodging pieces of metal in some tight places. One Taurus 945 was so badly bound up I had to put it in a vise and hammer the pieces back flat to get the barrel out of it.

Thanks for the replies. I could probably have explained #1 more clearly as stating it like a whipping like recoil, it felt very fluid, like someone was pulling my barrel up. Never felt anything like this before.

I got the box in front of me, BM0211 L-1059
made in brazil

also very dirty ammo:

Hard to see but those specs are sand like debris in the casing. I saw all sorts of flakes land on my forearms when shooting this.

A few years ago, when it was cheap, I bought a ton of Magtech 230gr FMJ 45 ACP. Still shooting recreationally from that stash of several cases. Never had a problem. However, mine get run through a 1911 with relatively loose tolerances (plain-jane Colt 1991A1), and one that I can't imagine ever having a problem (an older Para Ordnance P14).

It may just be that lot, or that the H&K wants better fodder. My old man learned early on that even a pistol as relaible as his USP 45C wanted NO part of cheap reloads.

i have shot several boxes of it with no trouble. no saying you did not get a bad batch though. with ammo companies running @ 100+% seven days a week, trying to catch up on backorders, there is bound to be some loss of quality control. so you may have gotten a batch between qc checks. which is probably less often than it used to be.

MagTech .45ACP

I have shot both, regular MagTec 230 grain FMC and MagTech's defense
round 185 grain Guardian Gold without ever a problem. These were fired
from : West German SIG-SAUER P220A, Springfield Armory XD-45ACP, Les
Baer Thunder Ranch Special 1911, and a Kimber 3" stainless Ultra Carry II.

I've shot a few boxes of 40s&w. Haven't noticed any problems other than it appears very dirty.. my brass looks like the picture above.

I've never used MagTech ammo, but I have used their primers extensively and never had a problem.

I've been using Magtech for awhile and haven't had any issues
with my XD. I do have issues with Winchester FMJs though.
Sometimes some guns just don't like certain ammo.

MAGTECH is made in Brazil, for what that's worth. I've never had PROBLEM ONE with their products. Unfortunately, MAGTECH is no easier to come by than CCI products. I NEED PRIMERS! cliffy

The Magtech ammo I had was very hot (when compared to Blazers and WWB). I had some feed problems with my CD EFS 1911 and the Magtech was hot enough to really thrown the slide back and cycled in every time. The lighter Blazers would get stuck halfway. Better recoil spring helped. My was just worn out after a number of years.
