Jamz you are correct schools, courts and bars are NO CARRY AREAS!
Permits are relatively easy to obtain, most Organized Police Departments
can and will issue, some don't and defer to the State Police Licensing
Division. Municipal permits are a form type, much like a Maine Hunting
License ( if you've ever seen one) State Issued (SP) are Photo "drivers
license style.
Most towns and cities are ok with carry with a permit, BUT, Portland
PD is'nt real happy with them either way. The Chief down there
is from Philadelphia and make life hard in his baileywick.
Carry without permit is easy if your only carrying while hunting as no
CCW is required in the field, BUT, NO LOADED weapons on or in
vehicles (and I do mean on, leaning or laying against or on the vehicle
itself, a good many folks have been sighted by wardens for violations).
Open carry is legal,BUT,"Definetly NOT" worththe hassels! Transport
without permit is ok, BUT, Must Be Unloaded, in plain sight or in an
area not accessible by driver or passengers. A further note for any
other weapon (without CCW) transport in Un-Organized Townships
on Sunday weapons must be in a case or disassembled.
Hope that this is some help.
