I will be traveling from Maine to North Carolina. I will be putting my pistol in a locked pelican case in the trunk. Pistol will be unloaded and i will have no ammo on me. Will be mostly highway except to fuel up. Anything i should do? Any one to notify?

I would advise cutting across NYS and catching I81 in PA. Which in turn takes you to I77 and I26.

This route takes you through West VA and the western side of the mid Atlantic states. The scenery is prettier and you avoid DC and NJ totally and spend maybe 15 minutes in MD.

Please protect yourself and Visit the NRA site, https://www.nracarryguard.com/resources/gun-laws-by-state/. Enter the state you have a CCW and the application will display the states that honor your CCW permit. NEW YORK WILL NOT HONOR YOUR PERMIT FROM MAINE. In New York, you will be charged with a felony and arrested. The only exception is LEO, Law Enforcement Officer.

Ron. It will be unloaded, locked and stuck in the trunk while driving to and from. According to the second post. I will legal as long as i stayed on the highway. And my wifes honda can go 500 miles on a tank. So i will fuel up before new york and never get off the highway.

As to what to do, drive the speed limit and don't worry about it.

I hadn't thought about it before this thread came up but there is no route from New England to the rest of the country that doesn't force you to go through NY without leaving the country or dry land. Glad I left that area back in the 70's.

No one is going to be looking inside locked boxes in your trunk unless they have a warrant or you let them. Be polite and courteous during any encounters with law enforcement and you should be fine. What I wouldn't do is get into any arguments or quote any laws on the side of the road. You might win later in court but probably not on the side of a busy highway.
