LD 652 An Act To Authorize the Carrying of Concealed Handguns without a Permit passed the Maine State Senate last week and could be voted on as early as this week in the House. This will be very tight and there are some members that are still undecided.

Write your House Representative and urge them to SUPPORT LD 652.

Link to find your representative, just uncheck the representatives aside from the House rep and the Governor (which we believe he is already in support of this but good to be sure).

EDIT: It is on the agenda for today in the House, they may not get to actually voting on it so still send your emails or call.

Almost there...http://bangordailynews.com/2015/06/...rry-bill-with-fix-designed-to-satisfy-lepage/

Gotta love this...But Rep. Janice Cooper, D-Yarmouth, said proponents’ arguments were a red herring.

“This proposal is not about the Second Amendment. It is not about the right to bear arms. It is not about protection,” she said. “It is about a disdain for regulation, and that is the genesis of this bill. It is from people who disdain government, who disdain any interference in their freedom, as they put it, to do what they like, even at the risk of people dying.”

Ms. Cooper says that as if it's a bad thing. At least there is one Democrat that understands!

I didn't miss the snarky end of her comment. I also meant that she understands that freedom entails risks. If the government passed laws to keep everyone safe from harm at all times, we would no longer be free. I suspect that Ms Cooper and her ilk would not object.

We are now waiting for the Governor to sign, veto, or ignore it into law in 10 days. I am betting it gets ignored due to his stance on the state income tax debacle.

He has already said he'll sign it. In fact I believe there is a signing 'ceremony' today. :)

outstanding! now if New Hampshire could get on board northern New England would be really different than the rest of same as the old England New England.

I like that turn of phrase.

Congrats, Maine !

My first whiff of gun freedom came in Maine, after having lived in "Gun=Bad" NYC. A group of us went up there to see a total solar eclipse (July 20, 1963?) and camped on some river. One of us had brought a verboten .22 pistol and we were shooting it at a pile of logs on the riverbank. We got "caught" by a local farmer who had come by to see who was shooting.

We thought we were skunked, but he was just checking and he saw all the telescopes and cameras set up on tripods, wished us good luck, and went away.

We New Yorkers were stunned. Found out later that was no big cotton-pickin' deal in Maine.

Just the first whiff I ever had of firearms freedoms.

Terry

With the Governor of Maine signing the bill this effort has been successfully completed.

On to the next state!
