So I finally took my MAK-90 out today with some friends and warned them about the trigger making their finger numb before they shot it.

A little while ago some members here said that I just need to install a Tapco trigger kit and it should fix the problem. I just haven't gotten round to it yet.

My friends thought that because of the way the trigger finger rests on the stock that it was the stock causing the problem and perhaps if I sanded the stock down it might fix it.

Which is it? Do I replace the trigger or sand the stock, or both?

Just change to a TAPCO G2 trigger group, it will fix the slap. Swaps right out, no need to change the stock unless you want to.

Often they leave in the full auto disconnecter which is what causes the trigger slap as the bolt comes back. Cycling the action with the top cover off should clearly show where the carrier hits the disconnecter. Grinding off enough from the disconnecter to clear will also cure it. This is what I did to my WASR. I put the G2 trigger in my Norinco when I converted it to lose the thumb hole stock post 2004.

Replacement is only really easy if you pay careful attention to how the retaining spring (aka Shepard's hook) is installed and you have the right sized punch to drive out the roll pin to retrieve the disconnecter spring -- the Tapco trigger kit doesn't include this.

Wally has a point.

You know what, Wally has a point. I still suggest you get the G2 trigger...but, also get the disconeector spring and instead of the shepherds hook wire thingy, get the Tapco axis pin retaining plate. The spring only costs a couple of dollars and the retaining plate is usually around $10 or so but makes installation a breeze.
You can find it all here:

Thanks for all the advise. I'll check the contact on the disconnector first.
