I know I've read of many people not paying the hand-pick fee @ Southern Ohio and still getting an Excellent Condition Mak.

However, my question is:
Has anyone paid the extra $10.00 for a hand-picked Makarov and NOT gotten what they thought was worth the extra money?

BTW: SOG is in the midst of their 12 Days of Christmas sale.
Dec. 10th = Wild Card Day (all sale prices honored on this day).
Dec. 16th = Makarov is $115.00 ($125.00 for Hand-Pick).
Give them a call for a run-down of the specials.

Have not bought pistols from SOG but have paid for "Hand Pick".

Need to know just what they mean by hand pick.

Some just grab any ten pistols and "pick" the best appearing one, etc.

This question gets asked regularly. People's experience varies.

I had my dealer get me an Inshapore Enfield from SOG 3 or 4 years ago. I specified handpick, and got a nice one.

I got my Mak from SOG, and didnt pay the extra. I doubt it would be worth it seeing as how my "Excellent" condition pistol showed up with small sopts of rust/pitting.

My answer to the handpick is: NOT WORTH IT

I paid the 10.00 hand pick fee for a Bulgi Mak and it looked like it was shot about 12,000 times, worn in a holster everyday for 10+ years...it sucked!( not just my opinion, my FFL thought it looked like crap) I sent it back and thought I would never get a good one...thanks to my buddy Ed in Kentucky, I ended up with a beautiful mis-marked Russian military for the same price...Just my experience.

I have talked to people on the phone about just how they handpick and the methods vary. I know from experience it doesn't guarantee you a perfect gun.
To me, it's 10 bucks. Big Deal. I always pay the handpick fee and hope for the best. I don't get excited over 10 bucks.

i got my bulgie mak from SOG and did not handpick and got a really nice one
you could pass on the handpick and buy 2 boxes of ammo instead!

I'd forget the hand pick fee...
I Bought a Sistema-Colt and donated the $10 hand pick fee and so called best quality.
The one I got looked as bad or worse than a buddies lower grade Sistema.

In a lot of ways his was better.

I will never pay for "hand picked" again unless it is me doing the picking!!!!!

live and learn......................

I however got real lucky with both of my Circle10 Maks. Sweeeeeet!

Handpicking is to subjective to guarantee that the person doing the picking would pick the way you would. I have never paid for handpicking, and have never regretted it. Just order early while the odds are in your favor.

That's it right there. What are you getting for $10? What is the person doing the picking looking for? Matching numbers? Best finish? Best grips/wood? Certain markings? I doubt that they ever look at the bores, most of the surplus guns I get are too dirty to see anyway until you clean them. Best out of how many? They aren't going to go through every pallet they have for ten bucks. I'd say they just look at the ones visible on top.

What guarantee is there that they even are hand picking? The guy working in the warehouse picking orders for $8/hr probably couldn't give a darn about you. Is somebody going to get on his case because he didn't hand pick? It's subjective at best.
