Make your own primers?

I hadn't been making my own yet, hadn't thought of it, hadn't even seen these before!!! Now I has something to ponder!!!

Cool. In primers what do you do about he anvil? Could I reform used primer cups and take out the dimple?

I’ve read a few posts regarding the steps it takes and have zero interest. Between reloading and casting bullets I have no extra time to go through all the steps to make primers. Even as some sort of last resort / apocalypse scenario it would be 10% easier to just carry primers vs the supplies and accessories to make primers.

Mother Earth News and Survivor Magazine both had articles on how to rebuild primers and what was needed to do it.
The priming compound that was recommended was the red tip from a wooden kitchen matches pulverized with a mortar and pestle. And they had detailed information on how to rejuvinate a used primer and salvage the anvil. Of course they said the new re-built ones do work,
but only as a last resort.

I don't make primers, but i have been making #11 percussion caps for a few years due to the shortage of store bought caps. # 11 caps can be made fro aluminum beverage cans. It is very labor intensive work, and the compound will make several hundred caps if you measure carefully. I like to keep the kit as a back-up when needed.

Anybody here making your own primers? I'm tempted to try making some for my revolvers, though it would only be for the novelty of it.

I haven’t but I’ve seen the panics come and go since Clinton and the AWB and have maintained a good supply of anything ai might need. All of those extra $99/5000 primers I picked up in the lull in between panics don’t seem like the waste of money Mrs. Morris thought they were…

I do like learning though and if I ever get bored, I will be trying a couple formulas from here.
