There is no lawful way to carry a gun ready for use in Illinois. DO you expect the ISP to advocate felony conduct? That's right, UUW involving a firearm is a felony here.

How many other police departments in how many other states do you think have that exact same or very similar advice posted on a website or in a brochure?
I bet even some Texas police departments pass out the same stupid advice.

I really like this.
I showed it and the Illinois PD page to one of my more feminist/very leftist friends. She's now asking me to teach her to shoot out of disgust with a society that encourages victims to enable their attackers, and said that after I teach her and she feels comfortable, she'll be buying a gun.

What does it matter? That does not excuse the blatant stupidity of the Illinois police for pushing the "crap yourself to prevent forcible rape" defense.
They've probably got 2girls1cup as their department homepage and use it as inspiration for public self defense policy.

Doesn't make it right. Singling out one PD in particular helps focus the message (as opposed to "police departments suggest..." which makes it sound as if the poster is against ALL police departments).

Does anyone know if carrying a cap and ball revolver is illegal in Illinois? The ATF doesn't consider them a firearm, and no doubt a Dragoon is capable of smoking a bad guy if the shooter does his or her part (pun intended). I have read some articles on the matter, but I'm still not sure. If I lived in a freedom hating state I would definitely look into alternate forms of defense; and I'm not talking about whistles and urine.

Even in Texas where concealed carry is quite common it's never actually given as an alternative officially by LE. Not sure why.

Jeez.. you need a permit and "training" to buy mace there, too!? Mace isn't common here, but OC spray is (it was invented here). It's sold practically at every gas station.. maybe even at Chuck-E-Cheese's! (but not at Wal-Mart..)

You have to remember, The brass at most police departments are anti anything that will actually help you. guns are bad, self defense is bad. According to the Po-Po, the only correct way to handle crime is to let it happen and that gives ole Johnny Law something to do. Someone has to justify the outline chalk budget for the year. And don't forget crime scene tape companies. How would they sell enough tape if people didnt roll over for crime?

For the second caption, maybe say "Use the tool that would discourage him more." It seems less barbaric. The anti's see hurting anyone as bad mojo, so if we emphasized that guns are only tools, they may get the point better.

I'm old enough to remember being told this nonsense as a young woman. My response at the time was to get the Greene County Sheriff to come to our SMSU Women's Caucus meeting and talk to us about REAL self defense possibilities. No, he didn't suggest carrying guns. None of us thought of it as an option, either. But he did do better than "barf on him".

That is correct. Most women who are beaten or killed are victims of their husbands, boy friends or "significant others."
That statistic is like the number of "children" killed by guns -- if we call someone 25 years old a "child" and omit the fact he was a drug dealer in a shootout with a rival drug dealer.
