Savage O/U muzzle loader
A few years ago I picked up a Savage model 430...a 12 gauge O/U. It had had its barrels bobbed by six inches and was (is still) a handy 22 incher. I did want full length barrels but the only set that I could find was an unfinished set from the factory. In the white, covered with a dry protectant, no final machining.
And they would have to be jointed so as to fit the receiver. They went in to the closet - "maybe someday".
Fast forward to 2015. Saw an ad a month or so ago for adapters that slide into the breech of a shotgun, use 209 primers and covert the gun to a MLer. Not something that I would normally want to do but, hey, I gave this old barrel set.
The hardest part has been fitting the barrels to the receiver. It is slow work. The gun now looks like this:
Still work to be done finishing the thing : installing a bead, sanding off excess solder, cutting recesses in the breech for the adapters.
It'll work.
Just cut the recesses for the adapters. Sloppy job without a proper mill or lathe.
