Okay, went to the local gun show yesterday and was just going to "look around". In the process of looking, I noted a table with a couple of metal racks. In said racks were a slew of plastic fantastic firearms with some pretty low pricing. Drew me in, but there wasn't anything on the racks that I needed to own. But, directly below said racks was a matte finished revolver with a sticker on the grip, it said, ARMI 45 Colt.
Now, I dig the 45 Colt caliber, so I dug a little deeper, but couldn't find a price on the sticker to save my life. I asked the guy at the counter and he looked at the sticker and said, "yeah, there ISN'T one!". LOL!
He leans over to the other guy running the booth and says, "What do you want for the Armi?" Guy #2 says, "$119".
$119 huh? I checked it out, still going on their word that it was an ARMI version clone. Doesn't look like it's been shot much at all, nice and tight and no wear to speak of, even on that non-Colt-ish matte finish. My brother and bro-in-law both egged me on to "go ahead and buy it!" Heck, for $119, how bad could it be?!!! So, I did.
I figured out that if you ever wanted to meet new "friends", just carry an old revolver around at a gun show. "Got something to sell there?", "Whatcha got to sell?" seemed to be waiting at EVERY table as I caught up with the rest of the clan. They'd ask, "That a Uberti?" To which I'd follow up with "Nah, it's an Armi." and they'd instantly lose interest and go "oh, okay..."
Made me kinda re-think the Armi purchase, but I figured I bought it right, so no worries.
Then we got in the truck to come home. Of course, we've all done it, those that aren't driving (and a few that are) feel the need to pull out their new purchases and get to really inspect what they've purchased. I started to really look over all the markings, and there it was - "+Stoeger-ACCOKEEK, MD. A. UBERTI-ITALY + !!!!!
Just as I was recounting the story about how many guys were asking if it was a Uberti, I found out it WAS a Uberti !!! I was pretty happy about that. I have looked around on the net and haven't really been able to find any great difference in quality between the two, but there seems to be a perceived difference, I guess. At least at this show there was.
Anyways, I have yet to fire it, and I hope to have some photos tomorrow to show ya all. But, I just wanted to share, what I felt, was a pretty good deal at a local show. Didn't even have to wade through any beef-jerky pools or evade any stun-gun zapper events to find it!
