I need some drills to help me out. I am shooting the NERDPC on 08-20 with my 1911. I have been a dedicated revolver shooter and need to do some quick re-training.

The purpose is two fold, I have a hand injury the revolver bothers and I want to shoot the 1911 again. My last revolver match was last week so the practice has started.

Dry fire draw and aquire target, live fire with a timer draw-fire one, draw double tap.

My double taps are slower than death.

I will be shooting Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday and need a different drill for each day. Tuesday will be my Farnum swinger. Wednesday and Thursday reloading all that brass. (all practice will be done after a full day of work)

Thanks,

My practice routine ahead of the Regional

Set up using a basic "Classifier Stage"

7yds - 2ea w/Harries, RWR, 2ea
7yds - 2ea w/Rogers, RWR, 2ea
7yds - Bill Drill - T1
7yds - Bill Drill - T2
7yds - Bill Drill - T3
7yds - Mozambique - T1
7yds - Mozambique - T2
7yds - Mozambique - T3
7yds - 2ea - HS
7yds - 1ea - LH Only
7yds - 2ea - LH Only
7yds - 1ea - SLR - 1ea
7yds - 2ea - RH Only

10-yds - From Left - 2ea - while moving right
10-yds - From Right - 2ea - while moving left
10-5yds - 2ea - while moving forward
5-10yds - 2ea - while moving backward
10-yds - 2ea - SLR - 2ea
10-yds - 2ea - RH Only

20-yds - From one side of Bianchi, 2ea - RWR, from other side of Bianchi - 2ea
20-15yds - From behind Bianchi, 2ea - RWR - advance to barrel, kneel, 2ea
15yds - Draw & Kneel behind barrel, 2ea

Pick and choose to your liking...it's a "Classifier Plus", I throw in the Harries and Rogers practice because I need it, and I know there will be a low light stage.

Given these basic skill drills including the MZ's, movement, and behind cover elements of Stage 3, I've been getting a good workout.

Good luck,

Excellent idea. I don't use the classifier enough. As for the low light, I will pass on that right now as I usually do OK with that. Good light technique and great night sights.

Thanks for the ideas hope I get more. See you at Pioneer.

Hi,

Glad you could use some the suggestions. I wish I could share your flashlight confidence...I'm getting better with Harries...would rather do Rogers...we'll see how next practice session goes.

I find the Classifier (with some of the augmentations I've added) really does have a good skills mix to build an IDPA workout around. I feel like I exercise the majority of the skills that I'll need in any given match. Lateral movement has been a good addition for me, as has the flashlight practice and 2ea non-dom' string (I was surprised at the difference between 1ea, and 2ea w/non-dom').

I've developed a spreadsheet to record and analyze practice sessions...but that's another thread...I've been diagnosed as IDPA "obsessed" ;).

See you at the match,

I found that if I did not concentrate on a specific technique, I had better luck. I actually prefer the Sure Fire technique and eventually will have it down. It makes more sense.

See you next week,
