Not that any of us didn't see this coming, Manchin and Toomey are at it again. Manchin's term doesn't end until Jan 3 2018 but Toomey is up for re-election in 2016 (term ends Jan 3 2017). Let these guy's know what you think about them trying this bill again!

This post has been updated.

In the wake of the Charleston shooting, Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) are considering ways to renew their failed push to expand meaningful background checks on gun purchases.

In separate interviews Tuesday night, at a reception before a ceremony hosted by Sandy Hook families where Toomey was honored, the senators discussed their desire to find a new way forward.

“We want to make sure we have the votes. Pat’s going to have to, and I’ll work with him, to get some of our colleagues on the Republican side,” Manchin said, adding that he hasn’t talked directly to Toomey about a revival.

I apologize if this is in the wrong subforum. I figured Activism would be the best area for it but it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.

What can one do they deceive us at election time and then perceive to be fools afterwards all they really care about is lining their pockets with money sad. All gun control is going to do is give other countries more things to smuggle in. It's unreal they can't see this maybe that just don't want to.

According to what his own writings seem to say, Manchin wants to ban all semi-auto firearms, all magazines over 5 rounds and all handguns. He claims to be a hunter and "sportsman" who sees hunting as the only reason for anyone to own a gun.

One hopes that the voters of WV catch on to his game and unelect him the next time around.

We need to come up with a plan of action to kill any chance they have of getting even to committee with their legislation. That means identifying the first hurdle they have to cross as well as the second and then putting the Reps and Senators on those committees on notice that a lame duck and a dead duck will lead to their following them down in flames.

It would be great to see something similar to what happened in Colorado happen to these two (I am referring to the recalls, not the gun control measures). It blows my mind that the people of West VA and PA haven't voted these two out of office yet.

Recalls aren't likely and the solution to stopping another anti bill, regardless of who comes up with it is to get the Committee chairs to refuse to admit them for consideration. If Anti bills don't get any supporters and if the Committee chairs won't hear them then they wither.

Toomey: Do We Really Need Him?

Have had this discussion with my wife, she insists we need his "Republican" vote. What Republican votes? Has done nothing to support 2A, and done a whole lot to dilute it. Personally, I'm done with him.

The guy bought the gun from a dealer and submitted to a background check. The FBI screwed their part up and he was able to get his gun. Just what exactly do they want to fix about background checks that would have prevented this from happening?

Maybe have the check run by competent people? I mean if you're going to do it, do it right.

They claim to be working on a plan for a compromise on gun control. I wonder why all those "compromise" plans end up with more restrictions on guns, more confiscation, more control. But no easing of any restrictions.

I once asked a gun control advocate what would make her happy. Her response: "I won't be happy until every one of you gun crazies is shot down in the streets and the gutters run with your blood!"

That is the anti-gun idea of compromise.

I agree with you and he was my congressman for several terms. I contacted him before when he and his buddy from West VA were trying to give us the works. I told him my feelings to no avail.I then told him I would work for his defeat. That time is here and as far as the 2nd Amendment is concerned he is RINO and IMO must go.

West Virginia does not allow recall of Federal elected officials. Pennsylvania has no provision in its state constitution. The only way these chuckleheads are going is if they get elected out, or do something stupid like have a "wide stance" in a men's airport restroom.

Agreed, anti-gun position. NRA gave him a failing grade when I called the NRA during that period when he tried that nonsense before. I thought I'd never say this, but I'm not voting for him. He has outlived his usefulness (uselessness?) in the 2A arena.

If Pennsylvania and West Virgina don't permit recalls for these two then discussion of recalls isn't going to accomplish anything.

That puts us back to blocking movement of any legislation they propose to enact restrict the rights of Americans.

That is accomplished by contacting all our Senators and demanding that any gun control bill coming from them not make it out of Committee. We know how that's accomplished, calls, emails, letters demanding that Senators Toomy and Menchin have no cosponsors and no success in advancing any legislation restricting our rights.
