Marlin 1894 SBL

I am a sucker for 16" pistol caliber leveractions, so this definitely has my attention. The factory price is $1500, so I am guessing the rifle will end up being around $1200. That is pretty steep, but not totally crazy in today's dollars.

You will be doing good to get it for just the retail price. I would like to have one of the new Marlin 30-30s but about all I see listed on GB are selling for scalper pricing above retail. And I won't pay it. I will buy a Henry first. Its a good looking gun and I hope you find one you can afford.

A few years back when Remington took over the Marlin tooling I purchased an 1894 "Remlin" in .357 as a companion to Ruger Security Six. I like it.. I've only hunted with it once and had no opportunities. I think it would be great for Coyotes.

I killed my first coyote with a Rossi 357 on the run at around 50 yards. I was using a hot loaded Winchester 158gr HP bullet and the shot nearly gutted the dog. It was nasty. But quick. I was hunting deer and I'm glad I didn't get a shot at a deer with that load. I think it would have been a poor bullet choice. I bought a 500ct box of Remington 158gr soft points and reduced the load a little. And I have never tried them on a deer yet. I have no doubt the 357 would make a good close range deer round.

GB is not where you will find Marlin rifles at MSRP and discounted below MSRP. Henry products just do not have the pentup demand that Marlin does.

For deer I carry 158 grain semi jacketed soft flat nose.

I am getting where I like GB less and less. About all they have to offer is a chance to see certain guns you never see in a gun store. As for finding a deal there, you can just about forget it. Even if you find what you consider a fair price on the gun and the gun cost $500 before all the fees, in the end the fees, shipping, taxes, gunbroker fiddly fees and transfer fees and you will have another $100 in the gun.

I don't go in gunstores much anymore. I never see deals there. Not at the big retail chains anyway. There doesn't seem to be many old time gun stores left where you can strike a bargain with the owner on the OTD price of a gun. And I have been in a few pawn shops who use GB to tell you what price they want for the guns they have for sale. I don't deal with people like that. I haven't been to a gunshow in many years. Never see deals there either unless its from someone walking around with a gun they want to sell.

We have a store nearby called Atwoods. Think of a Tractor Supply super store. They sell farm supplies along with clothing and some food. They even have a decent gun counter that started off with very fair gun prices but now the prices are more inline with pricing at Cabelas.

GB has been getting a little nuts with the speculator pricing on every single cotton-pickin' thing. IMHO, that's because they don't charge for relisting and anything can sit on there forever until it sells.
