Marlin 336

Me, I think I'll get more enjoy ment out of the AR in .223, instead of 6.8 because the .223 is more common and deer shot in the head won't know the difference in .223 or 6.8:)

I've thought about buying a lower to be safe since uppers aren't concidered real guns, is this true?

I could get a good lower and save up some more $$$$$ and get a kick-a$$ upper:)

Of course get a Marlin later:)

I vote AR lower and Marlin Trapper now before the latter sells out (only 500 made). Too funny though...I bought the Trapper and an M&P AR within 1 month of each other this year. Sounds pretty sweet..., but the bad news is I am selling my "safe queen" Ruger 99/44 Deerfield to offset expenses.

I wouldn't count on your average AR to be able to do 1.5 MOA. They are capable of it and even better but in my experience it is more the exception than the rule. Given the political climate investing in an AR makes sense. The 336 is more versatile and more practical IMO.

I have never shot an AR that would not shoot MOA. I guess it has more to do with the shooter and ammo the gun likes more so than the gun itself.

My wife has one of the Marlin 336Y Spikehorn models in .30-30 which they only made for a few years, and it will consistently shoot 1" at a hundred with a 4x scope.

It is a nice shooting rifle. She paid $450 for is about 4 years ago. I have since turned one of my Marlin 336's into a trapper with a barrel length of 16.25"

I personally think that the shorter barrels on leverguns are more accurate since they are stiffer and less affected by the pressure of the barrel bands. JMO

...that's why I suppose their so much, would it be better to get a cheap one and cut it down to 16.25"...
It doesn't have to be "a cheap one". Get what you want and modify as you like. There are no laws to the contrary ... at least yet. :scrutiny:

I own a beautiful, relatively new 336A .30-30 ($350) and plan to have it cut down to somewhere between 16.5" and 18".
Not sure yet. Why not one of the straight stock wonders? Because I want a pistol grip. That's all.

By the way, what's an AR?

This was originally in .35 Rem with a 20" tube. I sent it off this last spring to have it rechambered to .356 Win and to have the barrel shortened to 16.25"

It's a nice little package that is quite a stomper in .356 Winchester. It also wears a Lyman 66LA receiver sight, which I think is necessary to give you a longer sight radius.

"AR" is the civillian term for M16 Rifle/M4 Carbine

AR15 refers to mainly .223 cals., and AR10 refers to the .308 specimens.

I think I'll buy a Stag Arms lower in May, and buy a upper later when money permits:)

Thanks y'all for the info, I'll get a 30-30 sometime:)
