Marlin 60 bolt hold open.

New to me Marlin 60 received by my ffl in a cardboard box that looked like it had been dropped from a moving train (his words), thanks UPS. The thin plastic hard case saved the rifle from being completely trashed.

The bolt does not stay open on the last shot and the bolt close button does not work. Otherwise the rifle functions fine and I can lock the bolt back by pushing in on the charging lever, pull out and it will release.

I'd really appreciate your guidance.

I think you are describing normal operation. My m-60 operates in the same manner, great little gun too.
