I have my grandfather's old rifle and want to give it a quick clean and get some oil on it before storing it away.

I know how to remove the bolt and extractor (and friends have warned me not to try and take the side plates off as the rifle can be a bear to reassemble).

But, I would like to get the mag spring and plug out so I can be sure the tube is clean and oiled for storage. I'd also like to remove the hand guard so I know I have oil on the barrel/tube underneath it before I put it away.

This gun has what I believe is called the "half-length" magazine, as it only extends maybe two inches out from the forearm.

I can see the mag screw at the end of the tube by the cap, and the two screws that hold the forearm retaining piece. I know when the retaining screws for the forearm are removed, and the retaining piece is pulled forward, I can then remove the mag tube end screw and the tube will come away from the barrel slightly.

Can anyone point me to a walkthrough of exactly how to take this assembly apart...or let me know if any part of this operation turns into a royal pain that shouldn't be attempted?

Thanks

answered myself...

Mag tube had a sling clamp on it.

Removed sling clamp, forearm retaining piece slid forward, mag tube and forearm would freely come off the rifle.
