I brought my Marlin 39a out of the grave. This is at least 35 years old and in almost pristine condition. I forgot completely how to take it apart since its been so long since I messed with a lever. I could not find the original manual so I download from the 'net. The doc I download is for a Marlin 39 with the cross bolt safety. I am curious if the procedure to take apart the 39 with cross bolt safety is different from the older 39's without a cross bolt safety? And while we are at it...is it ok to clean this Golden 39a with a Otis kit? if not what rod sice do I buy for a Rimfire? (I am in need of cleaning my CZ so I eventually will need to buy a rod so what size rod for the CZ 22RF?).

Thanks for all your help.

Unscrew the takedown screw, separate the two halves of the receiver, slide out the breech block, and that's all there is to it. You clean the bore from the breech, and clean the mechanism with a brush slightly moistened with oil.
