Just bought a marlin model 60 from a gun show.Won't do that again! It fires all but the last bullet in the chamber. It loads it and it is hit by the firing pin on the edge of the shell. What could be the problem.I thoroughly cleaned the rifle thinking that may be the problem.

Mag spring sounds worn out. I don't understand what you mean by the edge is hit by the firing pin. Are you saying the last round is hanging up on the firing pin? If so the firing pin spring is shot also and there is probably some crud inside the bolt. About the only thing that ever goes wrong on these rifles is built up crud and worn springs.

Sounds like for whatever reason it may not be chambering that last round fully, leaving the firing pin to drive it farther forward.

pull the bolt out and press down on the firing pin while its forward. see how far down out of it channel it goes. my buddies marlin 60 dose that so far it actually nicks the edge of the 22 rim and doesn't set the round off. i replaced it with a new pin and it worked fine for the 20 rounds that i put through it before i gave it back to him.
