My Marlin

Since we are talking Marlins here - I have a Marlin 60s. Stainless barrel, synthetic stock. I just put this scope on it and have not zeroed it yet.

I have the stainless model 60 which I got for 100 even out the door. Came with the stock scope which I put on a BB gun and now am looking for another Super Varment from tasco to install on the 60 if I even re-scope it. I have a tricked out 10-22 for a scoped .22 so I really like having at least one non scoped .22 and for that the model 60 is the cat's meyow.

Lupinus & P95Carry,

Your story, and pics inspired me. I was back and forth on which 22 rifle to buy. I settled on a Remington 597 - which I did buy, and did really like - in fact I refininshed the stock to a semi-gloss black just last night. BUT, when I saw your pics, it intrigued me. When I picked up my Remington, they had a new Marlin 60 in the store. I tried it on for size - I really liked it! I did not buy that one - but two days ago I won a used Marlin 60 with a lightly scratched stock (which I plan on re-finishing) but nice blueing and bore. So I'll have hi-tech, x-gen (Remington), and Old School (Marlin).

Happy shooting.

You simply cannot go wrong with a Model 60....

Mine was given to me by a friend before he died. It had a junk 4x scope on it. I got a deal on a Tasco 3-9x Pronghorn ($30, new), then proceeded to try every brand of ammo I could get(except Remington, which I've never had good luck with in a .22).

I've put 5000 rounds through it now, best ammo (FOR ME) has been:

Wolf Match Target (crazy accurate, and VERY consistant)
Winchester T-22s
Federal "Classic"Gold Label

None of the "high-velocity" stuff was as good, but none was really bad either.

With Wolf Match Target I can CONSISTENTLY shoot (10 shot) groups you can cover witha dime (<1/2" center to center) at 50 yards. YMMV, try a variety of different ammo.

Mine's NEVER been dissasembled for cleaning. Every 1500-2000 rounds I remove the action from the stock, hose it down with Brak-leen, lube it up, and put it back in the stock. (I'm actually afraid to do much more, as I don't wanna lose the accuracy!)

My Marlin model 60 was the first gun I ever bought, that was about 17 years ago. I still have it, there are a few scares, some parts were replaced, I think the trigger guard is cracked also. It has at least 10,000 rounds through it maybe 15,000 rounds and still makes it out on camping trips and it occasionally goes to the range as well.

yup must agree...

even I have the m70 (clip fed version of the m60), I have a simmons 3x9 on it, at 100yds from my rest it will do 2-3inchs with pmc high vel stuff, and .....
..........1-2" with the ely competion stuff:D . This out of the box no modifications. Ya gotta love it.

Get two of the speedloaders

"Hello, my name is Don and I too am afflicted with Model 60 disease".

(all: Hello Don)

I'm down to three now, having given one to my youngest son. You find them at almost every gun shop. My cheapest was $50 and it needed just a little gunsmithing. My most expensive, $135 for a new stainless with composite stock. 2 have scopes, one I shoot iron sights.

I have two of those speedloaders and finally settled on Federal Auto Match bulk, when I can find it, and Federal Champion Gold bulk when i can't.

The older model 60's (1978 or so) hold 17 rounds in the tube, the newer ones 15 rounds. Those speedloaders hold 15 rounds per tube with 8 tubes per speedloader. So I use it to fill the tube on the older guns then add a few rounds by hand to top them off.

Probably the best overall shooting value and accuracy for the money out there.

Of course in nearby Chicago those are classified as "assault weapons" and I am not making that up.

Converting older model to newer style last shot bolt hold open?

Is there anyway to convert an older model 60 to the newer style where the bolt stays open on the last shot?.

Here's my Glenfield 60 (Marlin) that my Mom and Dad got me for my 16th B.D. (51 now). After I know 20,000 rnds, it still shoots like a champ and will out shoot my buddy's 10/22 any day of the week. Very reliable, only slight problem I ever had was FTE from a few Winchester Wildcats. The Fed. cheapies run through like a dream as do Eley, CCI (Stinger, mini=mag, and sub-sonic). I went through a few Weaver .22 scopes, and a Tasco High Power scope that the crosshairs didn't meet on the horizontal axis (I just told people it was a ranging device hehe). I loaned that scope out and the dufus sold the rifle with it on it. He did give me an OLD Unertl 4X to replace it though, and it is amazingly clear :neener: I could never have asked for a better .22 all these years.

Glenfield 60's!!

I picked up an old Glenfield 60 from a pawn shop for $40 with an old scope on it. I've ditched the little tube scope and am now in the process of refinishing the stock. The finish had really dulled, so I'll take that off and replace with a clear finish to try and brighten up the wood. The bluing was still in surprisingly near-perfect condition and it shoots just fine without needing any work! Best deal so far!

A much newer Marlin 60 ran about the same price, it was one of those with the gold-colored seal in the stock. The previous owner had screwed up the barrel's finish and stripped most of it off. There was some light pitting, but a variety of sand papers, time, and a little bit of oil got that one more sand away from a mirror finish. Right now that's just being kept well oiled. If it starts to rust I'll have to figure something else out. After refinishing the stock, this one looks amazingly better than it did sitting abandoned in the pawn shop!

1 pawn shop, 2 60's, 30 minutes, and $90 otd... deals like that make guys enjoy shopping!

man I might have to get a scope for mine, those of you with a scope are getting some tight groups.

I thought what I did yesterday with it at 50yds with iron sights was decent, now the group is looking pretty shabby to me considering.
