Yes, Marlin's famed customer service comes through once again. Kudos to them. They're a top notch firearms company, without a doubt.

I recently purchased a Marlin 39a from a fellow THR member, and the rifle seemed to have been damaged in transit. I didn't notice it at first, but when I got home, there was a decent nickel-sized dent in the grip area of the buttstock. The buttstock itself was loose-fitting in general.

In addition, the rifle would not cycle properly when the lever was worked. It felt like I was scraping the bolt against the receiver every time I cycled the lever. Both halves seemed like they did not join up properly. Seemed like the rifle might have taken a pretty good whack sometime during delivery (box was dinged up pretty good). :fire:

Anyways, I call Marlin about the various issues, and the nice lady on the phone tells me to just send it in. About two weeks later, the BBT pulls up outside my house with my 39a in it. Woo-hoo! I was hoping for a few minor repairs, just enough to get the rifle working. Instead, I got:

--Brand new buttstock fitted to rifle.
--Cartridge guide spring adjusted.
--Chamber polished.
--New extractor installed.
--Rifle cleaned and checked.
--Rifle test fired.

Whatever it was that kept the two receiver halves from joining up smoothly, it was fixed. Rifle cycles perfectly, trigger breaks nice and crisp (but it's got that annoying BOING! sound....:scrutiny:), new buttstock fits nice and tight. I even got a new box. :D Color me impressed.

Marlin's got a lifetime customer in me, definitely. :)

Now, what's a thread w/o a pic, eh? Borrowed from the 39a Club thread (it's the rifle on the bottom):

Did they charge you?

I've owned quite a few Marlins in my lifetime and never had any issues that required repair. I did email them about an owners manual for my 39A though. They mailed one to me no charge.

Nice rifles BTW. :)

Maybe I just caught someone on a bad day, but my experience was just the opposite.

I have a 20+ year old 1894 .44mag that has never been accurate (7"+ at 100 yards) but is otherwise in near-perfect condition. One day a few months ago I tore it down completely and looked down the bore carefully. There are some small dents inside the barrel, opposite of the "Marlin 1894" stampings on the outside. The roll stamp is so deep that it dented through to the inside.

So I call Marlin customer service. I explain the situation, and she tells me to send it in and they will look at it. I tell her that I wanted to make sure before I spend money to ship it that this is something that would be covered without charge, as it is an old rifle. I simply wanted to know if a manufacturing defect on a 25 year old gun is covered by their warrantee.

She was borderline rude, told me she didn't know, I would just have to send it in first. I asked if she could transfer me to someone who would know, which she did. I left a clear voice mail with call-back info, but never heard back.

Sorry, I don't mean to add negativity after your good experience. I'm glad they treated you right, nice looking rifle. Your story has me thinking maybe I should try again, maybe someone else will answer the phone.:)

Purchased an 1894 Marlin .32 H&R rifle from them. The rifle jammed constantly on different loads of both .32 H&R and .32 S&W Long. Called and was told to sent it in, got a phone call 3 days later asking if I would like a repair, or a refund since this rifle should never have left the factory. They stated there was a manufacturing defect that was causing the jams and they apologized!
I asked for a refund, got it two weeks later and I let them know I would be back based on their Customer Service alone!

Marlin's a top notch company, you can't go wrong!

Sorry about your experience, fatelk. Maybe the person you were speaking to was having a bad day. Dunno. I'd definitely try again, if I were you.

Wow, that's really above and beyond, considering none of that was their fault.

My thoughts exactly. :)
