Could anyone provide me with quick facts or a link to the regulations/requirements for a CCW Permit in the state of Maryland?

-Alex

Permits are virtually impossible to get here, unless you're a politician, ex-police, or a business owner transporting large amounts of cash. We're a "may-issue" state, with language in the law requiring applicants to demonstrate "good and substantial reason" in order for a permit to be granted. What the definitions of "good and substantial reason" is, is pretty much anyone's guess.

That said, I have to say that I strongly disagree with 86's comment that you leave MD. Leaving does absolutely nothing to solve the problem, and in all truthfulness, is cowardly beyond belief.

I'm sorry to be so blunt, but the only way that we as gun owners are going to gain the upper hand when it comes to repealing the ridiculous anti-gun laws in this country is to stand and fight. States where the anti-gunners have an especially strong foothold like MD, NY, MA, and CA are especially important - if we all flee, the anti's will have no-one to oppose them, and will spread their insane and anti-American nonsense unchallenged.

FWIW, I suggest you check out some of Maryland's grass-roots organizations that are currently fighting to make sure that the anti's have a tough road ahead of them when it comes to enacting anti-gun legislation here in Maryland. Marylandshallissue.org is probably the best organized and well known, and most definitely worth checking out. In fact, two members - Norton and Spot77 are members here as well - you might want to PM them and introduce yourself. :)

Had a permit for eleven years(owned a liquor store) and it was so restrictive as to be basically worthless. I could carry from home to the store, store to the bank and then home. Pretty much a waste of time. Also, the MSP are NOT our friends. It's a uphill fight for us but by going to "Gun bill day" during the legislative session we've managed to make a few points and hold off the badguys. My $.02

Yes, that kind of attitude is one of the reasons I won't live back east.

Well Kpin,
I left that Godforsaken place over 30 years ago, for a better way of life, not running from the socialist gun laws. You're quick to condemn what you don't understand and that is a common trait of many back there. I wish you luck. I guess now that Oleg is gone the High Road no longer applies.

I can assure you, even with Oleg gone, that this board still operates under the same code of conduct it did last week.

I fled from Maryland nearly 10 years ago. The lack of good carry laws was but one factor. There will be no calling others cowards for their decision to leave one state for another over the issue.

Voluntarily edited my comment above.

However, my point stands - we desperately need all the pro-gun people we can get to fight in the places where the anti-gun sentiment is strongest. We need to be bringing the fight to them, because they're sure as heck bringing it to us. Fleeing just makes it easier for them.

If you chose to leave, that's fine. It isn't right for me to call coward without knowing the full circumstances, but it's also not fair in my opinion to make comments like "move away" like so many seem to do. It's not that easy - people can't just up and leave family, friends, their home and history in a heartbeat. And they shouldn't have to. Maryland has it's issues, but they're never going to change for the better unless we all stay and fight.

That's all I'm trying to say.
