I just read this in Guns magazine today. I thought I would share it with those of you who may be affected that haven't read it yet. Here 'ya go:

"MARYLAND LONG GUN BAN

Following the release of a new 'study' from a self-professed gun control group, Maryland Ceasefire, calls for banning long guns are surfacing throughout Maryland. The report claims a crime is committed every 48 hours with a so-called 'assault weapon.' With the misunderstanding there is no functional difference between an 'assault weapon' and any semi automatic firearm, long guns throughout the state are in danger of being legislated out of existence. The underlying intentions of this report could not be clearer. As one news report stated, 'Right or wrong, gun control advocates say they want a ban on long guns.'

I'd start writing letters and making contributions all you Marylandians. This looks like the kind of thing you want to start fighting early on, before it gets serious.

The main thing they are aiming for is a state AWB, which could be a total ban like the "assault pistol" ban now in effect. They will also, if they can, go for a ban on ALL semi-automatic arms, shotguns, rifles and handguns, though I doubt that would pass even in the current Assembly.

As for contributions, it is just a bit late. Those who will contribute to pro-gun candidates should have done so in the summer. Unfortunately, many pro gun people won't even bother to register and vote. Some won't see gun bans as a problem until the police turn up to confiscate THEIR guns. Then they will wonder how such a law came to be passed and scream about their rights. Those who are unwilling to defend their rights by all legal means will find that "rights" means whatever privileges a dictatorship is willing to grant to its slaves.

No doubt that they will try it, but remember that it has to go through both committees and we have a majority in the Senate committee right now. There's still hope.....
