Hi all, just recieved my MAS 36 in the mail today and thought I'd share it with everyone. I have two things to say, firstly french rifles are awesome and secondly 8 guns just isn't enough:).

Looks nice!!!

I've got 4 MAS 36's,fun guns.
Long ago they were $36 each($42 shipped).
Have to love a CnR FFL.

8 guns, you do know that you still have alot of "work" to do. ;)

Did it come with a side order of escargot and a big white napkin?;)

OMG why does everyone have to make these asinine comments and believe they're the first poster witty enough to say such things on a MAS thread.:banghead:

I swear to god I'm gonna post on every Beretta thread that the owner should watch out because an Italian gun may decide to change sides in the middle of the fight and shoot ya in the back:neener:

Besides it's not like the good OL usa is exactly batting 1000 in the past half century of conflict. Watch out for American guns they only fight till they get bored then they simply leave to go home

As to the MAS I think you'll enjoy it. These are very underrated milsurps. I've owned Swedes, Swiss, British and Russians and my MAS out shot em all.

Oh BS! Your MAS outshoots a Swiss rifle? Say it ain't so! :D

I'm just teasing, but I am curious. I've never seen another surplus rifle that would hang with a K-31, (and I assume a 1911 and 1889 are just as accurate). Will an MAS 36 shoot that well? Wow!

MAS 36s are darn nice, if you can deal with the oddball caliber**. Congrats!

**As I sit here fondling a K31 Swiss in an oddball caliber.

Yeah, aka108, I'm with krochus - the asinine comments are getting really really old.

The Mas36s are pretty damn accurate. True I don't like the bolt handle, they have no safety, but for power and accuracy they do really well.

krochus, Lighten up, Francis.

i'm sorry to have offended you. This is the first MAS thread i've seen; so i was unaware of other dispersions elsewhere.

A little biting humor should not detract from enjoyment of a nice rifle; and to me, part of the fun of milsurps is their contextual historic background.

Thanks for the support and the comments folks, As to the escargo comment the bayonet does work for roasting things, I roasted some fox on it for the dog when I shot a fox last night.
Also, why does everyone say that the Mas has no safety? The safety position on the bolt is a very good arraignment, at least for me, much better than say a mosin safety or even a mauser.

Because they don't have one. Mosin Nagants and Mausers do. A bolt that is not all the way closed is not a safety.

It was explained to me once that the French army's view of a safety was as follows.

If not in combat what are you doing with one in the chamber? and if in combat what the ^$^* are you doing with the saftey on?

Plus the 12lb trigger acts as a safety all it's own:banghead:

Mine would http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=2772836#post2772836

Nice rifle. It may well have taken some Fellagha in its day.

My .38/200 Webley Mk. IV has the same safety (even single action!)!

Being French it was probably never fired and only dropped once.
I don't know why people feel it necessary to say things like this. The French have a good fighting record (any one remember Napoleon?).

In World War I they suffered 1,397,800 military dead and 4,266,000 wounded (the USA's numbers were 116,708 and 205,690, respectively). In the 1940 Battle of France, the French Army lost 90,000 killed and 200,000 wounded: in six weeks!

The French are no more cowardly than any other nation, and it is silly to pretend otherwise.

I've been looking for an unmodified MAS 36 for several years. I had one that had been sporterized back in the '50s by Golden West Arms and then rebarreled to take 7.35 Carcano. Hey, it was $12.50 at an auction - I couldn't resist. Shot pretty fair, and the ammo was a lot cheaper than 7.5 French!

Dad already had an almost identical rifle in 7.5 French that came with one Band-aid can of ammo. He took nine deer with ten rounds - and the tenth round had fallen apart, probably from being bent. Very accurate.

Yep, I'd sure like to find one!

As a certified Carcanophile, I'd give up certain parts of my anatomy for that rifle.

What is the availability and price for 7.5X54mm ammo these days?I always liked the layout and feel of the MAS-36;but th eammo availabity cause dme to shy away.
