A few months ago, I bought a new Mauser M18 just to see what they were for myself. Initially I was impressed with the fit and finish and the smoothness of the action. In all aspects, it appears to be a quality piece of workmanship but available at a decent price point. In a direct comparison to the Remington 783 I find the 783 to be a crude example, indeed. Don't get me worng, the 783 I had and gave to my stepson shoots surprisingly very well. But the refinement, fit and finish are not close to the level of the Mauser M18. Maybe I got an extra lousy finished 783 and an above average M18?

Anyway, in the course of sighting in and shooting the Mauser, I had a pierced primer event that collapsed both ejector springs and bent both ejectors and the retaining pin was damaged, too. On the advice of the gunsmith, I contacted Mauser Customer Service to be sure I could obtain the correct parts. When I asked what I owed him, the CS rep said "No charge. It's part of the service. We just need to ship the parts to a gunsmith."
Cool!
I was very impressed with the polite, professional attitude and knowledge of the rep I dealt with. Very good face of the company, IMHO.:thumbup:

Good to hear. A year ago I bought an M18 in .308, and was (am ) delighted with it. Wonderful manufacturing, great trigger...certainly better than the several Timney triggers I have on my Oberndorf Mauser and my Ruger 77s. Wonderful accuracy.. And the synthetic stock actually is half way decent looking and great handling. What is not to like? Mauser style 3 position safety, removable magazine, slick action...I was just dissapointed I didnt have an opportunity to use it to take a deer this year.

I've had my Creedmoor for over 2 years and have taken several deer out 250 yards with it. Almost bought the 6.5 PRC but decided to stay with the CM because I have a Bergara 6.5 CM set up for long range and wouldn't have to buy different brass and dies. Possibly the best trigger that I have seen out of the box.

250 yards? For me, I would have let that deer alone.. I see a deer that far away, my next thought is I gotta walk WAY out there if I hit the deer and drop it in it's tracks , then my next thought would be " what if the darn thing does not drop, then I got to walk out 250 yards just to START tracking the stupid thing" Then I gotta gut it and carry it ALL THE WAY BACK! Then, I would most likely think of how far the supermarket is from my TV because If I don't shoot the deer, all I got to do is go home and ask my wife if she would not mind going to the store and picking me up a real nice T- bone and cooking it up for dinner... By the time I thought all this over the deer would have just walk away before I could decide what to do. This actually.Happened, really.. I thought of tracking the deer, gutting it, dragging it usually UPHILL then skinning it, then taking it to Jim's meat processing, then paying jim $130 ... or stopping my the store and buying a nice steak and asking the wife to cook it up for me.. I chose the steak,,,
