A few months ago, I bought a new Mauser M18 just to see what they were for myself. Initially I was impressed with the fit and finish and the smoothness of the action. In all aspects, it appears to be a quality piece of workmanship but available at a decent price point. In a direct comparison to the Remington 783 I find the 783 to be a crude example, indeed. Don't get me worng, the 783 I had and gave to my stepson shoots surprisingly very well. But the refinement, fit and finish are not close to the level of the Mauser M18. Maybe I got an extra lousy finished 783 and an above average M18?
Anyway, in the course of sighting in and shooting the Mauser, I had a pierced primer event that collapsed both ejector springs and bent both ejectors and the retaining pin was damaged, too. On the advice of the gunsmith, I contacted Mauser Customer Service to be sure I could obtain the correct parts. When I asked what I owed him, the CS rep said "No charge. It's part of the service. We just need to ship the parts to a gunsmith."
Cool!
I was very impressed with the polite, professional attitude and knowledge of the rep I dealt with. Very good face of the company, IMHO.
